In January 2016, Peter headed back to Jaipur to the astonishing Literature Festival. On 24 January, he talked about the Silk Roads with the legendary Colin Thubron on the Front Lawn in front of 2,500 people. The session was widely covered by the Indian press - including Vogue India, who described it as 'a dazzling success'.

On 13 November, Peter delivered The Gibraltar Lecture at The Gibralitar International Literary Festival. He spoke about The Silk Roads: A New History of the World and about changing the way we look at the past. In 1204, the knights of the Fourth Crusade brutally sacked Constantinople, the capital of the Byzantine Empire. It was an event that scarred relations between the Catholic and Orthodox Churches for centuries.Peter goes head to head with Christopher Tyerman, one of world's most distinguished medieval historians in an academic version of a rap duel, to argue why things went so badly wrong in a bid to see who should take the blame (800 years later). In a light-hearted event, sparks flew, the accusations and counter-accusations will be bandied about, and bygones were finally bygones as Peter imagined what might have happened if the leaders of the Fourth Crusade had been able to count properly.
